Adobe Photoshop provides a dialog for reading and writing IPTC location data (in the file information menu).
GPS units - like this Garmin handset - continuously store location data into track log files that can be used for geotagging. For photography purposes there are smaller geo loggers available, usually without a display and small enough for any camera bag.
